Last year I decided to start my own business making custom designed costumes for the movie industry. It has certainly been a difficult year however it has also been immensely gratifying. I knew it would not be easy to leave the comfort of an office job and a regular salary to strike out on my own. There have been many ups and downs and I have had to be flexible about my approach to work. For instance, at the start I thought I would only be making costumes for the film industry. However this is not an easy sector to break in to and I have ended up making costumes for individuals as well. For instance, last week I designed and made a wheres wally fancy dress costume for a wealthy individual who required something spectacular to wear to a fancy dress costume party. It is not exactly what I had in mind when I started this business but it certainly pays the bills.
